Bringing Southern Indiana Together For A Stronger Future

Southern Indiana has great potential to be a premier place to live, work, and play. There are also obstacles to growth that need to be addressed, including education, workforce development, and substance abuse. We can achieve more if our governments, nonprofits, business leaders, and the public are aligned.

Our mission is to bring people and resources together to break down barriers and help Southern Indiana reach its full potential.

Our Mission: To actively facilitate a shared regional process that will align resources, address needs and produce sustainable solutions resulting in our region achieving its potential as a best place to live, work and play.

Guiding Principles

We believe that we are stronger together and that we can find sustainable ways to make continuous progress. These are the guiding principles that we commit to and inform our work:

We will engage and align governments, education, civic, business leadership and nonprofits throughout the region with strategies for moving our region forward without regard to geographical and/or personal interests.
Our work is generational and requires long-term commitments of all stakeholders to achieve access to opportunity for all residents and foster regional engagement that will result in a high quality of life in our region.
We believe that we are strong, more effective and have greater impact when we work together to foster and sustain an environment where there is innovative thinking, diversity of ideas, mutual trust, and transparency with a spirit of collaboration that will move our region forward.
We are committed to an innovative and systems thinking approach to produce and advocate for successful methods resulting in measurable outcomes for all residents in the region recognizing the diverse individualized community needs.
We will seek common ground to engage and educate our elected leadership on strategies to achieve our goals.

Our Collaborative History

Align Southern Indiana is the result of the community coming together and recognizing the need for collaboration in creating real change.

In 2015, the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana conducted its first area-wide Needs Assessment. It highlighted a profound demand for an increased quality of life in Southern Indiana.

When members of the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana, Metro United Way, and various community stakeholders came together to brainstorm solutions, they realized that the barriers standing in the way of Southern Indiana reaching its full potential would require a concentrated and unified effort to overcome.

To accomplish this, an organization was needed to bring together county governments, educational institutions, nonprofits, and business leaders to help unify them in working toward common goals.

Align Southern Indiana was officially established in 2017, assuming 501 c(3) status. Align’s approach to solving issues follows the national Alignment process, which has been successfully replicated across different communities, including in Nashville and the Coachella Valley.
